My name is Gladys Jimenez. I’m a Contact Tracer for Tracing Health and I live in Yucaipa, California.
A Contact Tracer once you have a positive case of COVID-19 will reach out to you. We’ll try to find out all the information, your symptoms. Where have you been? Who have you met information? But at the same time, to me, Contact Tracer is more than just that because these are the same time trying to help you.
I like to read the studies out of all the things that I can read. And even though I knew every percentage, every number behind that, there is a person now I am talking to the person. They are for to me, that they has a voice because that voice is talking to me, is telling me they’re suffering their pain, their love, their empathy, their struggles. When you call a person, you have 10 to 15 minutes to get the information. But at the same time, in order to get the information you need to trust. To me then, every call is like a dance because a person will give you something and at the same time will step back. And then you come forward and then you go back at a bit in those 10 to 15 minutes. Then I realize that’s what you’re doing. You’re dancing, and the better you get, the better the dance. Sometimes you will just tap into tippy toes and that’s OK, too. B
ut people at the end of the day, trust, trust the person, trust that you’re there to help them. My main role is to find information about every person that has a positive case. If a person needs food, if a person needs a letter for their employer, if the person needs services, if the person needs guidance through the whole process of applying for unemployment or medical, there are many things in many ways that we can help people.
However, these days, people want to speak, want to talk, and one of the things that people want is just somebody to listen to them. And that’s one of the things that we’re doing every single day, actively listening to people, helping them, following them in that journey that they’re going through. Because I do believe and they do trust the things I can do be better and things can be better. And that’s one of the things that people have taught me as well. Though through compassion and empathy, this world can be a better place.
The work is more than a job because that compassion that I get from people has no price.
